All our tours start from Piteå in northern Sweden (65°20′N 21°30′E). Piteå is located 689 km north of Stockholm, only 132 km from the polar circle. You can reach Piteå by train to Luleå or Älvsbyn, by bus, car or by air to one of three close by airports.

We recommend you travel in a sustainable way by choosing green transportation by train or buss.

How to get here

Travel eco-friendly to Sweden and Piteå by train

You can travel to Sweden and Piteå eco-friendly by train from most European cities.

There is no train station in Piteå, but you can take the train to Älvsbyn train station or Luleå train station, and from there take the bus to Piteå. For busstransfer to Piteå from train stations, see below.

There are both day trains (11-12 hours) and night trains (13-14 hours) from Stockholm to Luleå.

Travel to Sweden and Piteå by air

There are three airport to choose from in Swedish Lapland to reach Piteå.

The largest and with most frequent connections is Luleå Airport (LLA) 55 km (40 min by car) north of Piteå. This airports has several connections each day with Stockholm Arlanda airport (ARN). The airport is located 9 km (10 min by car) from Luleå center. Check for flights to Luleå airport here >>

All international flight to Luleå have to go  through Stockholm Arlanda airport (ARN) 20 minutes travel by airport train from central Stockholm. Check for international flights to Arlanda airport here >>

Skellefteå airport is located 97 km (1h 15 min) south of Piteå, and only 20 km and 20 min by car south of Skellefteå center. The airport has international direct flights to Spain and Italy, and trough Stockholm to the rest of the world.

The third airport is Arvidsjaur Airport 125 km (1h 35 min by car) west of Piteå, and 13 km (14 min by car) from Arvidsjaur center. The airport has daily connections with Stockholm and seasonal charter fligts from Germany trough Fly-car and Pro-Sky.

All the airports have car rentals, and shuffle-busses to town center. From each town there are buss connections to Piteå. se Below.

Travel to Piteå by Buss

You can travel to Piteå by buss from the railway stations and airports as well as from Stockholm and other towns in southern Sweden.

From train stations:
Luleå train station - Piteå (54): Buss line 100 (56 min), line 14 (1h 16 min), 20 (1h 25 min)

Älvsbyn-Piteå (51 km): Buss line 32 (1h 3 min)

From airports:
Luleå - Piteå (65 km): Local buss 4 & 104 to center, buss Line 100 (1h 26 min), 14 (1h 40 min), 20 (1h 40 min)

Skellefteå - Piteå (79 km): Buss Line 100 (1h 26 min, every hour), Line 20 (1h 21 min) 

Arvidsjaur - Piteå (125 km): Buss Line 22 (2 h), Line 17 (1h 45 min) or Line 21/32 (2h 25 min)

Travel to Sweden and Piteå by car

Travel by car in Sweden is easy and makes your travel flexible to explore attractions by yourself. Roads are relatively good with not too much traffic, and you can easily get accurate traffic information. Even winter roads are fine, but one has to take care driving on winter roads up in the north and especially during bad weather conditions.

Driving in Sweden, and especially up in the north, means also to be aware of wildlife on the roads, especially moose in dawn and dusk, and up in the north reindeers, especially in winter times. 
You must have a traffic insurance driving in Sweden.
